Can Coaching Circles Help You With Your Career?
Have you ever considered participating in a coaching circle to support your career? The first question you might ask is, “What are Coaching Circles?”
Coaching Circles are for people who are experiencing a similar challenge and involve regular accountability meetings with other participants who are looking to overcome a specific challenge. When participants meet, they identify solutions to help each other move forward and achieve specific goals.
What happens during each accountability meeting?
During each meeting, each participant updates their circle members on their progress and commits to at least one action so everyone is held accountable and holds each other accountable. There is typically a facilitator who is the ‘glue’ that ensures follow up is taken and success is obtained for participants.
How can coaching circles help me with my career?
If you are having specific challenges in your career, the support and perspective of a group can certainly be helpful. This forum allows you to share where you are in your journey, what’s working and not working, and allows you the opportunity to hear solutions from peers who are working toward solving the same problem.
GOOD NEWS!
I’m excited to announce that in partnership with Progression Partners, I’m hosting a new Coaching Circle for individuals who are navigating a career change, transition or searching for a new job opportunity. This involves weekly accountability calls where participants share progress with their job search, overcome job search challenges and identify solutions to move forward and make a successful career change.
We already have a dynamic group of participants and opening it up for 4 more participants.
The Goal
- provide a facilitated, structured space and process to support you in making a career transition.
- facilitate peer connections and provide opportunities for peer feedback.
- share effective practices pertaining to making a career transition and find your next job opportunity.
The Structure
This is an open coaching circle made up from individuals from various organizations. It allows individuals to proactively manage their own career needs and not ‘wait’ for an organization to provide a forum. Participants benefit from hearing ideas from those outside of their own organization.
1. Each individual brings a personal challenge they would like to address with the support and suggestions of colleagues.
2. Key topics of interest to the group are the focal point for each circle meeting. Content may come from a book that everyone reads and prepares to discuss at circles, or it could come from speakers or reading articles. It’s really up to the group what works best for them.
Why Coaching Circles?
- Less excuses, more action!
- What got you here won’t get you there!
- If it were easy, you would have done it already!
- Input from others gives you more options to pick from!
- What gets measured gets done!
Coaching Circle Outcomes
- Peer learning and confidentiality.
- Sharing what you are comfortable with.
- Facilitated discussion.
- Listening and asking clarifying questions.
- Offering insights and perspectives.
